Durban Reservoir Re-Nu
Site:
Kwadabeka Reservoir, Durban
Situation:
Contractors were replacing some of the old corroded steel pipes feeding to and from Kwadabeka Reservoir.
One of the pipes in need of replacement was a 250mm steel outlet pipe which rans under the concrete floor of the reservoir to a neighbouring tank.
Replacing the pipe would mean a section of the reservoir floor would need to be chopped open, the pipe replaced and then the reservoir floor refurbished and sealed.
This would’ve been a time consuming and very expensive exercise during which the reservoir would be unoperational. The project contractors turned to Nu Flow for a noninvasive solution.
Solution:
Nu Flow cleaned and descaled the steel pipe using specialized cleaning equipment.
Once the pipe was cleaned, Nu Flow relined the pipe using a structural liner and Nu Flow’s Red epoxy which is approved for potable water.
An epoxy saturated liner was pulled into the pipe. Within the liner is a rubber bladder which is inflated when the liner is in the correct position and is left inflated until the epoxy has cured and hardened.
The bladder is then removed leaving behind a “nu pipe” within the host pipe.
