Don’t wait until its too late!
Site:
Macsteel, Boksburg
Situation:
The Macsteel branch in Boksburg had a very old 200mm earthenware sewer pipe running under the warehouse.
The pipe was not broken or leaking, but the warehouse management were concerned that the aged pipe would at some point fail as all old drain pipes do eventually fail.
The concern was that the pipe runs under the warehouse and 2 roads, so if the pipe were to collapse and need replacing the process would cause major disruptions to the business.
Solution:
Macsteel together with Ekurhuleni Municipality opted to have the pipe relined as a preventative maintenance measure with Nu Flow structural liner enhancing the life of the pipe for another 50 years plus.
In order to reline the 100 meter long pipe which was constantly running and in operation, Nu Flow technicians used inflatable plugs to block the sewer line at a manhole further up the line and over pump the sewerage while the lining was done.
Because of the time and logistics of setting up the pump and hoses for over pumping, Nu Flow ran a day shift team and a night shift team so that the job could be done quickly and without having to set up the pump and hoses each day.
How its done:
An epoxy saturated liner is pulled into the pipe. Within the liner is an inflatable bladder. When the liner is in the correct position, the bladder is inflated and left inflated while the epoxy cures.
Once the epoxy has cured, the bladder is removed leaving behind a structural “nu pipe” within the old pipe.
