Relining at Mafikeng Hotel school

Site:
Mafikeng Hotel school

Situation:
The Hotel schools galvanised 110mm kitchen floor drain pipes were very badly corroded and were constantly blocking.

The pipes are a meter under the kitchens floor. There are also electric cables under the floor making a pipe replacement even more difficult.

Problem:
Replacing the old corroded galvanised pipes would involve chopping open the Hotel Schools kitchen floor, replacing the pipes, repairing damage to cables during excavation and patching up the damage after the pipe replacement. The Hotel School did not want to close the kitchen for a month while contractors lay new pipes and cables.
They turned to Nu Flow for a better, less invasive solution.

Solution:
Nu Flow’s technicians cleaned the pipes using a jetting machine and Nu Flow’s specialised Micro Cutter cleaning machine. Nu Flow then relined the pipe with Nu Flow’s structural lining technology. Epoxy saturated liners were pulled into the pipes. Within the liners is a rubber bladder which is inflated when the liners are in position.

The bladder is left inflated until the epoxy has cured. Once the epoxy has cured, the bladder is removed leaving behind a ‘nu pipe’ within the host pipe. The relining was done working from the floor drains in the kitchen and a manhole outside the building thereby causing absolutely no disruption and damage to the Hotel Schools kitchen floor.
